With the return of the Labor government, we await the announcement of ministerial portfolios and look forward to engaging with the incoming Minister relevant to our sector. A unified voice is critical at this time and we have a few initiatives planned.

Policy Update
Data Standards Body: CDR Consultation Drafts
The Data Standards Body (DSB) released a series of new consultation drafts aimed at supporting the expansion of the Consumer Data Right (CDR) and improving consumer experience:
Consultation Draft 367 – March 2025 Rules: Proposes draft standards to support the inclusion of non-bank lending and Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) products under CDR. (Submissions due: 14 May 2025)
Consultation Draft 369 – Redirect to App: Proposes enabling data holders to redirect consumers to their existing mobile apps for authentication, enhancing security and user experience. (Submissions due: 13 May 2025)
Consultation Draft 370 – Amendment to the 338 FDO: Proposes extending the obligation date under the 338 designation from 10 November 2025 to 16 March 2026. (Submissions due: 15 May 2025)

ACCC Grants Interim Authorisation for BECS Transition - The ACCC has granted interim authorisation for banks and payment schemes to coordinate the phased transition from the BSB-based BECS system to the New Payments Platform (NPP).
AUSTRAC Targets Inactive Cryptocurrency Exchange Registrations - AUSTRAC has launched a campaign urging inactive Digital Currency Exchange (DCE) providers to voluntarily cancel their registrations or risk forced deregistration.
AUSTRAC Industry Forum – Melbourne, 28 May 2025- AUSTRAC will host an Industry Forum in Melbourne on 28 May, with updates on regulatory reforms and guidance. The session will include Q&A and opportunities for one-on-one discussions with AUSTRAC representatives.
ASIC Launches New AFS Licensing Portal - ASIC has launched a new digital portal to streamline the process of applying for an Australian Financial Services (AFS) licence. Organisations must register via the ASIC Regulatory Portal to apply. A demonstration video is available on ASIC’s website.
DSB CDR Implementation Call - The next CDR Implementation Call is planned for the 8th of May. Implementation calls are held weekly, enabling all community members access to subject matter experts from the ACCC and the Data Standards Body.
