Industry Updates: CDR, international delegations, and the Finnies!

FinTech Australia welcomes the second review into CDR and progress towards a digital economy. Our article in The Australian was published yesterday.

We’re looking forward to our first delegation this year to the UK for Innovate Finance global Summit, in partnership with UKDIT. Around 12 of our fintechs will be travelling for the event and the program has commenced. We have also begun planning a delegation to CB Insights: Future of Finance. All details and your EOI link can be found here. Email Rehan for clarifications.

Our big announcement for this week is the Finnie Awards! Entries are now officially open and we are already seeing entries coming in. This is your opportunity to be recognised as one of Australia’s leading innovators in the fintech space, learn more about it here.

Congratulations to our member Joanne Cooper, the CEO and Founder of ID Exchange, for winning the 2020 Telstra Business Women’s Award.

On Friday, we will be presenting before the Select Senate Committee the issues raised in our submission. The key areas we will focus on are CDR, R&D Tax, Capital, Competition, Consumer Awareness and Payments regulation. We will share our opening address and our responses to the questions when they have been published in Hansard.

Lastly, a warm welcome to our new members Binji and Think Markets.

General Manager

On 6 February 2020, the Senate referred the provisions of the Treasury Laws Amendment (Research and Development Tax Incentive) Bill 2019 (the bill) to the Senate Economics Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 30 April 2020.

The bill contains three schedules and implements the legislative measure ‘better targeting the research and development tax incentive’ from the 2018 19 Budget, with amendments re: the application date and tax offsets.

We will be making a submission before the close date – 6 March 2020.
