Weixin Pay Expands Across Tropical North Queensland to Support Growing Chinese Tourism Demand

As Chinese outbound travel continues to recover and grow, delivering seamless and familiar payment experiences has become a key differentiator for destinations aiming to stay competitive.

In Tropical North Queensland, a coordinated rollout has introduced Weixin Pay across 12 major attractions in the Cairns–Great Barrier Reef region. Coverage includes a wide range of high-demand experiences such as diving, cruises, rainforest tours, wildlife parks and farm visits. Attractions across both Tropical North Queensland and Hamilton Island are also offering tailored incentives to encourage on-ground spending and enhance overall visitor value.

Beyond payment acceptance, this initiative demonstrates how integrated digital payment solutions can support the tourism sector by reducing friction at the point of purchase, enabling destination-wide merchant onboarding, supporting targeted incentives, and creating a more connected end-to-end visitor journey.

As competition for Chinese outbound visitors intensifies, the role of integrated payment ecosystems in enhancing traveller experience and unlocking sustainable growth continues to expand.
